Skunk Anansie have earned a place on the UK and international scene with their unique blend of alternative rock, punk and metal with elements of funk and electronic music. The band's distinctive lyrics, touching on political and social issues, have made the band a voice for several generations. Whether it's the hit Hedonism or the catchy Weak, their emotive ballads and experimental guitar riffs will win everyone over. It's no different with Post Orgasmic Chill (1999), a deluxe version of which the band is set to release this December.
The writers of hits that have tens of millions of plays on streaming platforms founded the band in 1994. Its name refers to the spider man Anansi from Ghana. "We added Skunk to the name to just make it sound more cheeky," the charismatic singer Skin mentioned in an interview with a foreign media outlet. The British alternative rock formation has a total of six studio albums to its credit. In addition to being categorized as an iconic "Britock" band, in 2004 Skunk Anansie earned the distinction of being one of the UK charts' most successful bands between 1952 and 2003. Their live shows are a whirlwind of energy, explosiveness and unprecedented originality.
"I think as a band we see the progress we've made since the 90s. That our music is really having an impact on the world around us. It was weird at the time that the lead singer of the band was a woman of dark skin color who was also part of the LGBTQ+ community and sang about political issues. Today, the world is much more open. I'm glad that we could be one of the bands that kind of paved the way for today's bands in that regard," the Skin singer said in an interview with Red Bull.
After an unforgettable show at Forum Karlín, Skunk Anansie is now returning to Prague. They will rock the SaSaZu club on March 12, 2025. Don't miss out on a good dose of nostalgia and timeless music that still finds a place in the hearts of fans across generations after 30 years.
