"It was never the plan to write a hit song," says Jarrod Gosling, who along with Dean Honer is a member of I Monster. "We were just goofing around in the studio."
Experimentation, innovation and fun in the studio with unexpected results have become the story of this Sheffield duo. From their 2001 Top 20 hit "Daydream in Blue", which has appeared in endless films, TV shows and commercials, to their song "Who is She?", which twenty years later has become a global sensation on TikTok and racked up hundreds of millions of plays, the pair have consistently succeeded in creating quirky electronic pop that feels fresh and timeless at the same time.
The band have released six studio albums over the years and collaborated with a number of artists such as HK119, Keavin Pearce, and perhaps most notably, contributed to the production of The Human League's 2011 album Credo - Phil Oakey highlighted the pair's vital contribution to the album.
While the music the duo made 20 years ago remains front and center in 2023 thanks to the charming and enduring nature of their songwriting - "Daydream in Blue" was featured in an H&M ad this year - the pair continue to focus on the horizon rather than the past. "We're working on 30 or 40 songs right now," Honer says. "We're really excited about what's next."
